You know its a great movie when it is finished almost as fast as it began. This is one of my all time favorites, along with the movie Notebook. Both of these movies totally engaged me, but each in differnt ways.

brilliant movie. suspense, beauty and whit brilliantly combined

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

Intense was the first thing that came to my mind. Portman does an amazing job in a very intense two sided role. Just outstanding.

User review rating: 3 January 06, 2011

this was a dark, scary film...requires more than one watching to figure it all out...definitely NOT for children, or the squeamish...

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

All I can say is WONERFUL!! I loved every second of this movie!! It is going to be a movie I will see again and again!

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

not his best work but a fine effort

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

This movie was chilling, disturbing and completely engrossing. Mila Kunis played the part of Lily perfectly. Natalie Portman was amazing as always, managing to portray all the different facets and complete breakdown of Nina.

User review rating: 1 January 06, 2011

Really bad. Boring. The world is already full of crazy people for me to spend time watching a crazy dancer. The dance is boring as well. Only seeing Mila Kunis saves the movie.

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

Gripping - kept me watching to the very end.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

I love a movie that you leave thinking "what did I just see?". You keep going over and over it in your mind trying to figure things out, a bit like The Sixth Sense. I hope the ballet theme doesn't turn people off as it's not really a movie about ballet but rather takes place in and around a ballet company.

Natalie Portman is a wonderful actress. Sh'e blown me away since the movie Beautiful Girls.

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

the stars in this movie really shined

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

great thriller with a twist. good to see movies that make you think a bit.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

Great movie, nails biting the entire movie

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

Very intense movie throughout!!! I am not a ballet lover at all but this movie not only shows the amount of work that goes into a production like Swan Lake but shows the pressure and dedication that some dancers face everyday!!! This was suspense to a T and an unbelievable performance from Natalie Portman!!!

such a beautiful movie!

Incredible, a must see for everyone!!

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

Was definitely a gripping movie...got confusing at the end but I quite enjoyed it.

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

Moved a bit slow. Kept me guessing the whole way through.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

One of the best thrillers ever. I love creepy movies and this one is good at it.

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

another movie i walked out of scratching my head

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

Before going to see Black Swan I was given mixed reviews from friends whose opinions I trusted. Some reviews said this was a fantastic film while others said they walked out less than an hour in. In my experience, when I hear such opposing viewpoints on the same movie it usually means that I am going to enjoy it. This was the case with Black Swan. It is not a fast passed movie, it is not loaded with special effects, the actors are believable and there are moments of brilliance (both from the actors and the filmmakers) that make Black Swan worth the trip to the theater. I went on a weekday matinee and it was nearly sold out. The crowd was not your typical young crew but a majority plus 30. My

Not what I expected. This is one for the video store. A little disturbing....it will keep you from signing up your daughter for ballet lessons.

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

Excellent performances. typical Aronofsky

If you want to feel tense, hide behind your hands, and cringe every other scene, this is the one for you. There is only one evolved character here, and even then, Portman's spiral in to madness is choppy and sloppy - certainly not due to her lack of ability, rather the crappy editing job. Ryder is reduced to a caricature better suited to a Craven slasher. A well made film - no, but Portman made lemonade and her efforts should be worth an Oscar nom at the very least.

I liked this movie that it kept me always trying to guess what was real and what was all in her head. I think Natalie Portman did a amazing job and should win an award for her role.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

Excellent film. Natalie Portman's depth in this movie is beyond her previous roles. Beautifully shot, the film captures the internal struggle of a dancer and the intense pressure ballerinas are in to perfect a role.

User review rating: 4 January 06, 2011

a bit confusing for average movie goer great acting.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

Creepy but beautiful.

User review rating: 3 January 06, 2011

Not bad. Could have been improved a little - as I found it too choppy. I lost the flow a few times. The dancing was well done.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

Great movie! Nathalie and Mila were amazing!! Hope they win golden globes!

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

You don't have to be a ballet fan to enjoy the amazing story of this troubled prima ballerina. With a breath taking performance by Natalie Portman, I was kept on the edge of my seat until the incredible climax. I was left speechless and utterly entertained with this story that truly gets under your skin.

two thumbs up

go see

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

Fantastic, Beautiful, not enough adjectives to describe this wonderful film. Bravo.

User review rating: 3 January 05, 2011

An eerie look at the complexity of being perfect as a ballerina is intelligently portrayed by Natalie Portman. The directors did not insult the intelligence of the audience by suggesting they did not know what eatting disorders or mental health issues in the industry but the masterful story within a story was falling of grace of the swan...almost complete if not for the lackluster sexual chemistry of the characters and a choppy and hasty story...not worth a best movie Oscar nomination for the movie ut for the leading actress and great cinematography

User review rating: 5 January 05, 2011

Simply AWESOME ....... a definite Oscar nod for Natalie Portman. Dark and beautiful.

User review rating: 4 January 05, 2011

dark storyline but well acted

User review rating: 1 January 05, 2011

I expected so much more. Natalie Portman was amazing in a ridiculous movie. "The Turning Point" meets "The Fly". This movie could have been so much better.

User review rating: 4 January 05, 2011

A fantastically chilling tale of desire and mental breakdown. Portman is raw, intense and fragile in what should be recognized as her best performance to date.

User review rating: 3 January 05, 2011

This is the 1st time I've ever felt uncomfortable during a movie. It was confusing, sexual and grotesque all at the same time. well done!

User review rating: 0 January 05, 2011

I wouldn't recommend this movie except, perhaps, to serious fans of dance, for the dance parts of the film. The hallucination scenes were confusing, which I found frustrating. It seemed to me the writers were just lazy, and couldn't find a way of resolving the plot. Also, some of the hallucination scenes were very, very, gory--unnecessarily so.

User review rating: 4 January 05, 2011

Haunting performance by Natalie Portman.

User review rating: 4 January 05, 2011

Shows the dark side of the ballet world but is very well acted

User review rating: 4 January 05, 2011

This is definitely a movie that not everybody will enjoy. That doesn't mean it isn't a good movie, it just means it requires a certain perspective to really understand it. Even the infamous Natalie and Mila sex scene is far from being sexy if you understand the reason for it in the movie, though they are both beautiful women. At one point approaching the end, I was feeling a flavour of 'Fight Club' but on the opposite extreme: Women and ballet, instead of men and fighting. The best advice I can give is if you go see it, go into the theatre with an open mind--I found it to be a work of pure art as a result.

This movie is worth seeing, but only for the great acting by all the principals. The story itself is bizarre and unbelievable. I found it incredible that no one notices the state that the lead character is in. Why does no one see? Why does no one help? OK, it's an intense artistic world that the characters inhabit, but we seem to be talking about someone suffering from schizophrenia and clearly experiencing hallucinations. Because the movie pretends that no one notices how ill she is makes the situation seem unreal and prevents the viewer from becoming emotionally invested in the characters. Icky is how the movie left me feeling.

This has to win some oscars!! Intense! Great writing - visuals and music build intense 'edge-of-seat' anticipation.....
