Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Heather Doerksen initially studied science at Simon Fraser University, but along the way decided to change her career path to major in Theatre. While still a student, she appeared in her university’s productions of Antigone: The Cherry Orchard, Big Love and Hedda Gabler.

After graduating with a BFA, Doerksen and five of her peers created the company, Genus Theatre. The group wrote, directed, produced and starred in four shows that mixed live theater with film.

The 5’9½” tall actress has thus far built a career mostly in the world of science fiction and horror, appearing in television shows and films of those genres. Audiences may know her best for her recurring roles in the popular sci-fi shows: Battlestar Galactica, Fringe, Smallville and Stargate: Atlantis.

Her notable film credits include roles in The Cabin in the Woods (2012), The Uninvited (2009), The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) and The Eye (2008).

In 2012, she starred in Stefan Wrenshall’s film, Indie Jonesing, which earned the title of Best International Feature at the Indie Spirit Film Festival. In the same year, she also starred in Baharak Saeid Monir’s Ambrosia, earning a Leo nomination for her acting in the film.

Doerksen’s biggest role to date is as Sasha Kaidanovsky, a Russian pilot in Guillermo Del Toronto’s blockbuster epic, Pacific Rim. The film about the war between humanity and monstrous invaders cost US $150 million to produce.

Doerksen continues to work in her niche genre with the zombie apocalypse thriller, Hidden opposite True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard.

Besides film and television, Doerksen has also had experience in voice acting, providing her voice to video games such as the Dead Rising series.

She has also done voice work for Marvel Comics’ miniseries, playing the roles of famous mutants such as Emma Frost, Psylocke, She-Hulk and Betty Ross. Her other voice acting credits include Holly Hubble, Wolverine and Barbie.
