The Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with more than 70 shorts and features showcasing the best in contemporary Asian cinema from North America and around the world. The festival kicks off on Opening Night with the North American premiere of AFTER THIS, OUR EXILE, by Hong Kong director Patrick Tam.
To anyone familiar with the Hong Kong New Wave cinema of the 80s, Tam needs no introduction.
His 1982 classic NOMAD addressed issues of sex and violence with unflinching brutality, and he is widely known as the editor of the infamous scene with Tony Leung Chiu-Wai at the end of Wong Kar-wai?s DAYS OF BEING WILD. But in 1989 Tam turned to film editing on select projects. AFTER THIS, OUR EXILE marks his directorial return.
