Tom Cruise honored by Critics Choice after Golden Globe snub

Published By Alexandra Heilbron on Dec 14, 2022

28th Annual Critics Choice awards nominates Tom CruiseThe nominations for the 28th Critics Choice Awards have been announced just two days after the Golden Globes nominations and Tom Cruise was nominated, despite being snubbed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is behind the Golden Globes.

That could be because he returned his Golden Globe statuettes last year in protest of allegations corruption and racism within the HFPA.

Tom's box office hit, Top Gun: Maverick, was nominated for Best Picture by both associations, but only the Critics Choice awards nominated Tom in the Best Actor category. The action film also received two nominations in the crafts categories from the Critics Association -- Best Cinematography and Best Editing, unlike the Golden Globes.

Also notably missing from the Golden Globe nominations were nods for any female directors. The CCA nominated Sarah Polley for Women Talking and Gina Prince-Bythewood received a nod for The Woman King.

Everything Everywhere All at Once leads with 14 nominations, followed by The Fabelmans with 11, while Babylon and The Banshees of Inisherin tied with nine. The awards ceremony will air live on The CW on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

Awards shows are dying out, and that's a good thing.

Talk about movies being fixed. Top Gun was the best out of all of the movies. Get it together.

Who are they kidding? The best picture was and is TOP GUN MAVERICK . As always they screw up everything! Tom Cruise was phenomenal, I have yet to see any other movie with the tenacity and excitement as TOP GUN MAVERICK. Stop trying to please the wrong people, He deserves more than the other pictures out there. Wakanda Forever was okay, but not worthy of such acclaim. No real live excitement .

Of course the Golden Globes snubbed him as his film wasn't woke/ bending over to make a tiny percentage of people happy.

@Sonia maybe read the engtire article before going off? Top Gun Maverick WAS nominated in the nbest picture category! Meanwhile Wakanda Forever was NOT nominated as best picture. So you are arguing for something that already is! If you want to argue that Top Gun is more deserving than say Everything Everywhere for example, then its your right but wait till they give the award cuz Top Gun may win and you would have wasted your breath (but tbh Everything Everywhere is a way better movie even if I loved Top Gun).
