Simpson was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year and was in hospice care when he passed. He was known for his long NFL career, which he ended to pursue sports commentary and acting but he will be most remembered for the trials for the 1994 murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman — one criminal and one civil.
Although he was found not guilty in the criminal trial, he was found guilty in the civil trial and ordered to pay $33 million in damages. He was later in trouble with the law in October 2008, when he was charged with 12 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping.
For this latter charge, he was sentenced to 33 years at the Lovelock Correctional Centre in Nevada but was released on parole in 2017.
