A new weekend box office champion has been crowned -- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 took over the top position, raking in an impressive $114 million domestically, even though it received a smaller release than previous Guardians movies due to the popularity of The Super Mario Bros. After four weekends at the top, The Super Mario Bros. Movie dropped a spot to second place, earning an additional $18.6 million for a total that brings it over the half billion mark domestically with $518.1 million.
The horror movie Evil Dead Rise dropped a spot to third, taking in an extra $5.7 million for a three-week total of $54.1 million.
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, starring Rachel McAdams and Abby Ryder Fortson landed in fourth place this weekend. The film earned an additional $3.4 million for a two-week total of $12.6 million. Click here to read our review.
