Amber Heard initially dropped from Aquaman 2 - find out why!

Published By Alexandra Heilbron on Apr 13, 2022

Amber Heard as Mera in Aquaman. 2018 Warner Bros. / DC ComicsDuring the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard defamation trial currently underway in Virgina, DC Films President Walter Hamada testified during a deposition that Warner Bros. initially declined Amber Heard's option to appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom because there were "concerns about her chemistry with star Jason Momoa."

Both actors have publicly addressed their lack of chemistry while filming the first Aquaman movie.

However, Heard claims the reason for Warner Bros. not initially casting her in the Aquaman sequel was due to her turbulent relationship with ex-husband Johnny Depp, which she refers to as the "Depp taint." She wrote in a Washington Post op-ed piece in December 2018: "A movie I was attached to recast my role," adding, "I had just shot a two-year campaign as the face of a global fashion brand, and the company dropped me. Questions arose as to whether I would be able to keep my role of Mera in the movies Justice League and Aquaman."

Warner Bros. eventually decided to have Heard reprise the role of Mera in the Aquaman sequel, but she wrote that they refused to allow her to "negotiate a fee increase commensurate with co-stars like Momoa, as might be expected on the follow-up to such a runaway hit."

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp's role as Gellert Grindelwald was recast in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which opens this Friday.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens in theaters on March 17, 2023.

They should have stuck to their guns and replaced her. Why does this lying b**** have a career and Depp doesn't? She married him for his money and to make herself more famous. Mission accomplished, while she ruined his life in exchange. I hope the truth comes out in the trial.

Why is a woman being punished for speaking the truth. Amber is a sexual assault survivor and she is brave and courageous for standing up for herself. She is admirable and I hope young women follow in her footsteps and stand up to their spouses and boyfriends if ever assaulted in a relationship. Men with fame and money should never get a ‘pass’ to mistreat women

@Ella, there are no heros or victims in the Depp/Heard domestic abuse scandal. If you listen to tapes of her speaking to him, they are chilling. Lots of video out there of Depp in public with signs of her abuse and tied with the audio recordings its very telling. Why is he alone to bear the brunt of that? They both should face job loss if one does.

Oh damn. Her career, such as it is will suffer due to "Depp taint". She's got that so wrong. It is Johnny Depp who is losing because of her out and out lies. This whole thing has gotten out of hand and Johnny needs a judge to put a stop to the ongoing lies and hatred caused by Heard's "stories" As for Aquaman, I viewed the first movie because my son asked me to go to the theatre with him. Wasn't the least bit impressed by the movie or the stars. Definitely won't be wasting my time on a sequel.

I don't know the truth about their relationship but to bad it effects their careers. Maybe they should just stop publicly fighting and get on with their lives and work.

I will not be paying money to see either of these movies, and I encourage others to do the same. I have followed this case closely and Johnny is a victim many times over, not just from Amber's abuse and lies but from studio heads believing her so obvious untruths. If these companies lose $ because they do not recognize that a man can be a victim too, they may begin to recognize the liar fro who she is. And "Ella" your last statement should read, "women with fame and money should never get a ‘pass’ to mistreat men."

Seems they are both still in movies, so...

Hello. Did anyone watch the videos she was making on her laptop where she kept instigating him and then turning the laptop to try and catch him reacting. She should have been removed from the sequel as I don’t even remember her from the first one!

Amber Heard is one poisonous broad. She sucks harder than Liberace on spanish fly and so does that Aquaman movie.

AH lost one sponsor gig, and JD lost 2 major multimillion-dollar roles when the tapes show clearly that she is the abuser not the abused as does her criminal history.

    I believe Johnny.

I think these two brought out the worst in each other. It happens. They probably should never have been together and, by the looks of both of them in the court room, neither looks happy to be there. This is the 2022 version of the War of the Roses.

I think that they are both guilty of domestic violence .

I saw the first Aquaman movie when it was released in theatres. I said it was a great movie except the female lead Amber Heard was a terrible actress. The studio execs. were right! There was NO CHEMISTRY between her and Jason Momoa!!

  15. Daisy • 4/16/2022 12:50:27 PM

I love Jason Momoa and was really looking forward to this movie, but I refuse to see it because of her. I have listened to a lot of the recordings she made, which prove she was the main abuser if not the only one. Every recording shows her abuse both physical and verbal. Johnny does yell and cuss in them but never does either of them say he ever hit her. She admits in more then one to hitting him, burning him and nearly cutting his finger off. During the trail video that has been released she smirks at every mention of her hurting him, as if she has a right to hurt him all she wants. In some of the recordings she makes fun of him for refusing to hit, for leaving the room so she can’t hit him! She is not a victim. And Johnny is not her first victim. She was arrested a few days before she met him for hitting her then girlfriend in an airport. That attack was witnessed by the arresting officer.

I'm extremely disappointed that Heard kept her role in Aquaman while Johnny was dropped from not one, but two feature films. He IS "Pirates of the Caribbean "!

  17. Nikita • 4/20/2022 8:39:21 PM

She is a money grubbing witch. Poor Johnny. I think AH took advantage of a meek nonconfrontational man. She should not be allowed to be in anyy movie. As Johnny said during the trial, she is toxic and their whole relationship is toxic.

  18. Yvonne • 4/21/2022 6:14:28 PM

Amber Heard! She is not a victim, she a user. There all kinds off abuse, and, I truly believe she a mental abuser. Everyone ones in a hurry to make her a victim. You have the (Me To) movement, how about a ( HIM TO) movement. I'll will not watch any more movies with Amber Heard. She gives a bad name for the number of woman, that suffered real abuse in there lives. When your on tape saying I did not slug you, I slap you. Hello! What a hypocritical and toxic person.

  19. James • 4/22/2022 3:36:49 AM

Anyone who has actually followed this case knows that Johnny is the victim and Amber is a psychopathic villain.
