The Paradise is thrilled to partner with the Toronto Film Society to bring classics to the big screen! TFS is one of Canada’s oldest film appreciation groups. It was originally formed in 1948 to meet the demand for Canadian and international forgotten, banned, independent, and fringe sound and silent films, and to support their preservation and restoration.

Deceit, treachery, and plot twists abound in this gripping noir thriller starring a luminous Ida Lupino as a newlywed who goes on the run for her life after discovering that her husband is hiding a sinister past. Along the way, she teams up with an ex-soldier to stay one step ahead of her murderous spouse and save herself. Director Michael Gordon deftly ratchets up the tension as the story progresses, creating an increasing atmosphere of dread and culminating in a nerve-wracking finale. When Strangers Marry (1944)
Hollywood legends Kim Hunter, Robert Mitchum, and Dean Jagger light up the screen in this story of a newlywed woman who suspects her husband, whom she'd only known a short time, may be connected to a murder. As the plot unfolds, she teams up with and an old flame to uncover the truth, while casting a shadow of doubt over her husband's innocence. The story's abundant web of twists and turns is guaranteed to keep you guessing until the very end! Catch the film about which Orson Welles remarked at the time of its release: "It isn't as slick as Double Indemnity or as glossy as Laura, but it's better acted and directed than either." 67 minutes.
There will be a brief introduction and door prize giveaway, followed by the first film. The second film will be shown after a 10-15 minute intermission. We expect the event to end at approximately 5:30 pm.
