Katie Keen (Owen) is a washed up 70's lounge singer who longs to be in the spotlight again. Returning to New Zealand from America, she hooks up with an old friend, Stephen (Prast), who is living with a drugged-out, drunken young man, Mark (O'Gorman) who writes lyrics for Hawthorne's and Brunning's band.
Meanwhile, Katie is being pursued by her boyfriend, Eddie (Simon Westaway), who won't let her go without a fight.
