Loved the 3D version at Disney Springs but thought it was supposed to be 4D. Was hoping for some water sprinkles and a little heat or wind. Either way, I thought it was well done. I can see where people who disagree are coming from. The problem is we built this country on a horrible foundation. Trying to make it better for all people is going to be a challenge. Halley was excellent. I loved the diversity for sure.
woke trash
Moved very slowly.
Halle Bailey was absolutely amazing! I grew up with the original and it was always one of my most favorite movies. I was moved to see Ariel brought to life in such a beautiful way! I cannot say enough good things about her!
Yes, Halle was good in it. But the movie bombed in Asia. An op-ed in The Global Times said, "“The controversy surrounding Disney’s forced inclusion of minorities in classic films is not about racism, but its lazy and irresponsible storytelling strategy. Many Chinese netizens said that like ‘Snow White,’ the image of the mermaid princess in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales has long been rooted in their hearts and it takes a leap of imagination to accept the new cast.” A lot of North Americans are probably thinking the same thing. Why put a black girl in a role that was originally white. Would we do the opposite - put a white girl in a role that was originally black? That would probably spark violence in the streets. Write an original black story. Next thing you know, the little mermaid will be played by a man.
It’s mid, I’d rather watch the first one bc it isn’t as scary
I'd rather watch the original movie than waste my time watching this one.
Love the songs.
We can’t stop singing the songs because it was so good! The kids just loved this! People who have bad things to say should put their feelings about black peoples aside or watch something else because she was GREAT
Everything was so incredible, from cast and talent to CGI. I want to see it again!
Cultural diversity in film makes you see beyond skin color . Choice of island setting and music - awesome. Film truly magnifies the colors created by God on land and sea. Look forward to sequel next year.
Disney has lost thier minds, 6 children and they put out this garbage , never again Disney.
Did they get diversity hires to do the CGI too. The CGI looked like X Files in the 90’s. Really dark gloomy and blurry. We really need the best actors and most qualified technicians to do the production.
Not all that good.
Not good.
Loved it!!
This movie was so good!
Such a great movie!!
Boring
The movie was excellent! It was great to see a beautiful black mermaid. It was also wonderful to see all the amazing sea creatures underwater. I like how it didn't change too much of the original story but still added little details to keep it interesting.
The entire movie was well done.
My Grandaughter loved it!
Great movie!
Why not create new princesses that fit the race and culture of the character instead of changing an original character. Create a character with the culture of Africa, Haiti, Dominican Republic, or other cultures like what was done with Moanna, or Raya. I'm so disappointed in the way Disney is running the company. I truly believe Walt is turning over in his grave. Stop changing classics with the intent of trying to be diverse. You can be diverse with new characters and stories.
The year's best date movie.
A usual Disney experience. Colorful water scenes. The original cartoon is my choice. Did not wow us.
It was brilliantly done captured my attention and imagination. The kids were laughing and entertained by the characters undersea, the beautiful colors, and the music... Makes you hope and believe that all things are possible in a world of love, peace, and inclusiveness. Love it!!!!!! Well done!!!!!
Very nicely done
Not a fan of the Disney live action the cartoons were better
This movie did exactly what movies were intended to do; I was transported to a place and time in Ariels world. The sets were absolutely dreamy and captivating. Disney did a great job of sticking to The Little Mermaid's story of our youth and enveloping us in dreamy nostalgia while putting a fresh new spin on it for a newer audience. If you want to remember a simpler time and be free to dream do yourself a favor and ago see this film for you and your inner child and for the little ones in your life. The acting on everyone's part was PHENOMENAL and Melissa was almost too good! I haven't even got to the soundtrack LOL!! 5 stars for what this movie did for the Ariel in me!!! Go experience this movie on the big screen in 3D /4D and don't miss out!!
Halle Bailey was phenomenal. I didn’t see the colour of her skin, I saw Ariel come to life. Her voice. Expressive eyes. Halle gave an incredible performance. The film works. It had heart. Fantastic cinematography and visual effects which supports the story. I was impressed with this film. 9 / 10 Well done!
Great time at the movies with this one
This movie is such a treat. It's visually stunning. I'm glad it's hitting $200,000,000 sales this weekend. Well deserved.
We walked out. The color was so dark and dreary and it was boring
Some things are just better left as they are. If you wants to create black princesses do it so that it makes sense out of Africa or Haiti or Dominican Republic or whatever. Why redo a movie with a white princess to show “wokeness “? I wonder if the next “ color purple “ movie should have another race ?! That would make just as much sense. Yes iam a black woman speaking against this movie. Go woke go broke
I cried. It was so amazing to see a Black woman on the screen with locs!!! Representation is amazing. My only comment is for Disney to make an actual Black princess with a Black story that isn’t about working all her life (princess Tiana). We deserve our own stories, even though we make stories like these even better
What a great movie! I didn’t think I’d like it as much as the original, but I did. It’s so neat how they make movies today. I’m 40, so the cartoon came out when I was little, & i didn’t think they’d top it. They stayed pretty close to the story line of the original. But I really liked how they added some parts..like when the mermaid & prince are talking in the study & trade the little mermaid figurine. My favorite part was the sea witch. She did an amazing job. & I love the actor who played her! They all did wonderful, tho. I loved the actor they picked for the little mermaid! & the fact that she is mixed. & I loved all the diversity of the characters. Very cool that Ariel’s brothers & sisters were different races, & her dad seemed of a Hispanic orientation. & Eric’s step-mom was black. Very cool. I think Disney did a fantastic job all around, & my 11-y-o & my husband loved it too! Excellent casting, animation, & singing-& close to the story line of the original. 5 stars.
Once again, a let down in acting and script. U just cannot redo or match the 1st one.
Little Mermaid is the cinematic event of 2023. You don't want to miss it.
It is a very fun and nostalgic movie. I went to see it mainly out of principle because of all the racist Conservatives out to trash it just because of the race of the actress. But I end up really enjoying it. So I'll go again, just to support the movie and double peeve off the Conservatives.
Would love to see a longer Director's Cut of this instant classic -- it's pure Disney magic!
IT'S ALWAYS THE NAY SAYERS, I KNOW EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION, BUT MY GOODNESS....DAMN..KNOW THAT CHANGE IS GOOD TO SEE DIFFERENT WAYS A MOVIE IS MADE. NOT SAYING FORGET ABOUT THE ORIGINAL, THE ORIGINAL.. IT WAS CUTE AND CARTOON ANIMATED, BUT THIS MOVIE BY FAR TOPS THE ORIGINAL IN MY BOOK. AND SOME WILL NOT LIKE THE MOVIE BECAUSE THE MAIN CHARACTER IS "BLACK" IT'S 2023 AND TIME FOR CHANGE....I'M JUST SAYING AND HAVE AN AWSOME DAY!!
This is a must Watch best Live Action Love it my Niece Loved this better then the Cartoon Version and she is 6
Better than the original and a truly stunning achievement. I can't remember having a more awe-inspiring experience in a movie theater; everything about this movie was just PERFECT! Disney has given us another game-changer: THE LITTLE MERMAID is the most enthrallingly gorgeous CG musical since CATS! I've been listening to the soundtrack non-stop for the last 72 hours, and I simply can't wait to introduce friends and family to this work of popular movie art no matter the financial cost to me personally.
I swear if this isn’t the most best wonderful movie that I’ve ever seen in my entire life, I have never been so happy to watch some thing I graciously adored those two hours I spent watching this movie
The most photo-realistic CGI effects ever! It absolutely transports you to that magical world "Under the Sea." Just WOW!!!
What is the person under my comment smoking? The CGI is far worse than in Avatar. Pirates of the Caribbean had better CGI, and those are basically old movies. The CGI is usually crappy todays because the artists are under massive pressure and also diversity hires are prefered over the most skilled professionals. Stupid raceswaps are the part of the same problem.
An absolute triumph from Disney that puts the Avatar movies to shame.
My kids liked the original movie better (their 5 and 8)
Loved that movie!
