After studying in Chicago for four years, François Vasseur returns to the Charpin-Vasseur house in Bordeaux. There lives his father Gérard (a womanizing pharmacist), his stepmother Anne, his sweet Aunt Line, and his half-sister Michele. But their lives are soon disturbed by an anonymous leaflet recalling an old story involving his Aunt Line.
In 1944, she was believed to have killed her father, but due to lack of evidence, the matter was dropped. François, who hates Gérard, is convinced that he is the author of the leaflet.
