Tested by a recent tragedy, Nigerian peasant Mocktar Dicko arrives in Essakane, to work in the Burkina Faso gold mine. He’s joined by a small team of miners led by Thiam. They descend each day below the dusty ground, with only pickaxes and headlamps as equipment.
Coumba, whose husband was killed in a cave-in, has become part of the team, filtering the broken rocks that the minors pass to her. In search of redemption, Mocktar does all he can to make life more pleasant for the young woman and her small daughter, whom she’s raising alone.
