Gepetto is a woodworker in Tuscany, who finishes working on a wooden marionette, Pinocchio. He wishes on a star that the puppet would turn into a real boy. During the night, the Blue Fairy grants Gepetto's wish and makes Pinocchio come alive, although he remains in the form of a puppet.

In order for Pinocchio to be a real boy, he must prove himself as brave, truthful and unselfish. The next day, Gepetto sends Pinocchio off to school, but he is tricked into performing in a puppet show, despite Jiminy Cricket's pleading and protesting.

When Pinocchio becomes trapped by two con artists, only the Blue Fairy can help him, but unfortunately, Pinocchio makes up a long web of lies leading to his nose growing longer and longer. He must prove himself if he wants to get back to Gepetto and become a real boy.
