Fanette (Deneuve) is writing a book on the abstract painter François Arnal. One day, when she learns that the man she considered her one great love, Philippe, is in town, she can’t stop thinking about him, even believing she has spotted him at a screening of her favorite film, An Affair to Remember.
However, she has to go to New York to photograph some of Arnal’s paintings that are on display there. Before leaving, she receives a note from Philippe, asking her to meet him in three days at the top of the Empire State Building, just like in her favorite film. She arrives in New York full of hope.
