This special screening series showcases a collective and creative insightfulness, by rising and established directors, whose focused passion and vision knows no bounds. Curated by Incongruent Media Creative Director, Nicky Lawrence, Sunday Noir explores innovative, exciting, deeply moving, cultural, narratives through each directors specific lens. Chosen with care by Nicky Lawrence each film has inspired a generation of women to pick up a camera and take action to tell their stories. Rarely on the big screen do we get to see such grace and charm from a certain perspective, yet with this series and these remarkable women the landscape shifts, creating space for a new kind of future. Chill with some popcorn each Sunday evening surrounded by themes of desire, love, struggle, pain, ambition, fear and most importantly joy. My Name is Jackie: In tribute to Jackie Shane, the boundary-shattering 1960s music icon and pioneer – director/actor/vocalist/multi-hyphenate Nicky Lawrence, whose sold out show “Ugly Black Woman” rocked and amazed Paradise Theatre audiences, has partnered with Ravyn Wngz for a special creation of music, film and expression: MY NAME IS JACKIE will have you bopping in your seats!

Subjects of Desire: Starring music icon India.Arie (Video, Brown Skin) and popular Toronto native Jully Black, (7 Day fool, Rally’n) this thought provoking film directed by Jennifer Holness, explores the cultural shift in North American beauty standards toward embracing Black female aesthetics and features, while exposing the deliberate, and often dangerous portrayals of Black women in the media.
