Mammame

Mammame Movie Poster

Dance and music convey the messages in this visually evocative, 65-minute film about the battle of the sexes. Nine dancers -- five men and four women -- go through routines set against a backdrop of barren corridors or played out on a bare stage with only a few simple props.

The dances and occasional babblings suggest that repressed sexual and romantic urges leave men and women alienated and/or mentally afflicted. Men go from being incapacitated by a woman's touch to becoming sexually aggressive and demanding. Women range between outright rejection of these advances to sympathy and kindness.

In the end, all the dancers are released and placed on a vast and open promontory where romantic and sexual expression finds a natural corollary in the real world.
