Figure of Armen

User rating: 3

1h 14m | Documentary

Since the 1915 genocide, Armenian history reads like a long series of tragedies, including the terrible earthquake of 1988 and the equally bloody conflict with Azerbaijan the same year. Coming from the Armenian diaspora, documentarian Marlene Edoyan travels the land of her ancestors to better understand the resilience and the spirit of its inhabitants, who declared their independence in 1991. From village to village, she tours the country, from the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh to the province of Samtskhe-Javakheti, two Georgian regions inhabited by many Armenians. What emerges is a portrait of people who share hope and disillusion.
