Elmina Movie Poster

Elmina is a film/art project conceived by the installation artist and satirical media commentator Doug Fishbone.

Fishbone also plays one of the central characters in the film, appearing as a Ghanaian landowner among all-African cast, despite being decidedly white and New-York. Set in the Ghanaian town of Elmina --the first West African port first settled and exploited by white Europeans-- the film is about a corrupt chief Nana, who tries to convince, bribe and intimidate his townsfolk to sell their land to a Chinese oil corporation, essentially shifting the local economy from Western to Eastern colonial exploitation.

Murder, greed, lies, adultery and disappointment ensue in this intriguing mix of conceptual art and African cinema.
