At a whopping 2.5 hours, this movie rivals Scorsese only in length. A high school dropout, a failed business owner, and most likely the recipient of a trust fund, Don Bowie does his best to explain to the world how he is relevant. After bailing off Annapurna five separate times, while legitimate professionals such as Ueli Steck summit on the same expedition, he does finally do it on the sixth try. But it is a painful journey, not just for Don, and his seemingly endless cash flow, but for the viewer. The most cringe scene is when he is lamenting how hard his life is after being near the earthquake in Tibet and then a terror attack in Paris (while he was “pretending to be Hemingway”). To ease his pain he picks up two blonde influencers and takes them up Aconcagua. We get it Don, you talked to girls. I, too, am a mediocre athlete, proud of my accomplishments. But I won’t be making a movie about myself any time soon. You’re welcome.

One of the best mountaineering movies of its time. Fantastic footage of epic adventures. Definitely worth the watch.
