Fictitious fifty-year old career waiter Edgar (Alex Warmerdam) has had enough of his miserable existence. Edgar doesn't want anymore difficult customers. He's had enough of his wife. He wants a new girlfriend. He wants new neighbors. Simply, he wants a new life...

When his situation continues to deteriorate Edgar decides it's time to pay a visit to the screenwriter who invented him. He's tired of not being in control of his life, and so continuously interrupts the screenwriter to complain about various scenes in his life's script, even making some suggestions regarding the course of his love life.
