Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) is presented during the social season, but she's unable to find a suitable match. They're either too old, or have rakish pasts, like Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page). However, when Daphne is slighted in a gossip sheet, she worries that she'll be ruined. Simon offers to pose as her suitor in order to attract more men, while the benefit for him will be that the mothers will be less likely to look upon him as a possible match for their daughters.
