TANYA ALLEN

Born: 1975

The Toronto-based actress was bitten by the acting bug at the age of 14. She spent two summers at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, and became addicted to performing.

She spent a few disappointing years in a number of small TV roles before she landed parts in two major CBC productions. In the historical drama Lyddie, she played the title role of Lyddie Worthen, an 1860s teenager who leaves her family's debt-ridden farm in eastern Ontario to work in a cotton mill. She also joined the cast of The Newsroom, where she portrayed Audrey, an intern with attitude.

Her first feature film was shot in Scotland. She played a small role in the movie Regeneration (1997), based on the novel by Pat Barker. Allen has opted to continue her career in Canada rather than try her luck in the States and has worked steadily in a number of lesser known films and television productions, such as Tail Lights Fade (1999) with Denise Richards and Lone Hero (2002) starring Lou Diamond Phillips. Allen landed the starring role as Percy Montana in the TV series Starhunter in 2001, and picked it up again when the series returned as Starhunter 2300 in 2003. She also starred with Margot Kidder and Jason Priestley in Chicks with Sticks (2004) and with Radha Mitchell in Silent Hill (2006).
