As the chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party, Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya) has caught the attention of the FBI, who view the Black Panthers as the greatest threat to America's national security. One night, William O'Neal (LaKeith Stanfield) gets into trouble with the police for a stolen car and impersonating a police officer. At the station he meets agent Roy Mitchell (Jesse Plemons), who offers him a deal to become an informant and infiltrate Hampton's inner circle.
