In 1919, in the old Eastern European country of Schlupsk, Sarah (Sarah Snook) and Herschel Greenbaum (Seth Rogen) discuss their plans for the future. Sarah says she would like to become rich, enough to be able to buy her own gravestone. Although Herschel is a ditch digger, he finds a job in a pickle factory in an effort to make Sarah's dream come true. But when he falls into a vat of pickle brine, the factory closes and their dreams come to an end. That is, until he wakes up 100 years later, perfectly preserved.
