Joe Bell's (Mark Wahlberg) son Jadin (Reid Miller) tells him that he is being bullied at school for being gay. Unaware of the severity, Joe tells him that it will work itself out. Jadin eventually commits suicide after the bullying intensifies and Joe does not cope well with the loss. Wanting to pay tribute to his son, he decides to embark on a solo walk across the U.S. from Oregon to New York City. Along the way, Joe is reminded of Jadin as he rallies young people against bullying.
