Eleanor (Jillian Bell), a fairy godmother in training is very enthusiastic about her new position and sets out to prove that people still need fairy godmothers. She searches for a sad little girl named Mackenzie Walsh who wrote a letter. Unfortunately, the letter was mislaid years earlier, and Eleanor finds that Mackenzie Walsh is an adult—who wants nothing to do with her.
