Inspired by her mother, actress Kate Capshaw, Jessica dreamed of acting from childhood but decided to wait until graduating from Brown University before pursuing a career.

During her university years, she gained a considerable amount of experience on stage.

Summers were spent studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London where she starred as Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream. At Brown she starred in university productions of Arcadia and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

After graduating with an English degree, Jessica landed her first acting role in the feature film The Locusts (1997), opposite Vince Vaughn.

She then went into a couple of independent features before trying out television in a series called Odd Man Out.

Jessica returned to film the following year completing the indie-film Killing Cinderella (2000) and the horror flick Valentine (2001).
