In the early '90s, Jaume Collet-Serra moved from Barcelona, Spain to Los Angeles to attend film school. After graduating, he began his career as an editor. From there, he moved into directing music videos and then commercials for products such as Playstation, Budweiser, Mastercard, Miller Lite, Pontiac, Smirnoff Ice, Renault, JT Roots (starring Brad Pitt) and 7UP.
Collet-Serra made his feature film debut with House of Wax (2005), starring Chad Michael Murray and Elisha Cuthbert, followed by the sports drama Goal II: Living the Dream (2007). His thriller, Orphan (2009), earned mixed reviews. He then went on to direct Unknown (2011), a thriller that starred Liam Neeson. The two have teamed up again in Serra's latest film, The Commuter (2018).
