EWEN BREMNER

Date of Birth: January 23, 1972

Ewen Bremner is best known for playing the character of Spud in the film Trainspotting (1996). He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and is the son of two art teachers. Despite his Trainspotting fame, Bremner’s career has been one of starts and stops. After completing his work on the iconic film, Bremner took a year off to think about his future career path. The movies he has starred in since have been, in many ways, as eclectic as the characters he’s played. Bremner’s varied filmography includes many small-budget, independent films, mostly from the United Kingdom and Denmark, such as Julien Donkey-Boy (1999) and Skagerrak (2003).

It wasn’t until the early 2000s, when he starred in Snatch (2000), Pearl Harbor (2001) and Black Hawk Down (2001) that he broke into the Hollywood mainstream and finally (mostly) shirked his long-time Spud persona. Since then, he has appeared frequently as a supporting actor in popular films like Around the World in 80 Days (2004), AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Fool’s Gold (2008), although he continues to star in more independent international films as well.

Bremner has won two awards so far in his career: a Best Actor award for his performance as a schizophrenic in Julien Donkey-Boy from the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema and a Best Debut Empire award for his role as Spud in Trainspotting.

Throughout his career, he has starred alongside many great actors, including Helen Mirren and Ben Afleck. He frequently appears in movies alongside fellow Scot, Ewan McGregor. They most recently shared the screen in Jack the Giant Slayer (2013).

His latest projects include Ridley Scott's action adventure Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) with Christian Bale, the comedy Get Santa (2014) with Jim Broadbent, and the sequel T2 Trainspotting (2017) with his pal Ewan McGregor.
