DOVE CAMERON

Date of Birth: January 15, 1996

Born Chloe Hosterman in Seattle to parents Philip Hosterman and Bonnie Wallace, Dove Cameron grew up on Bainbridge Island in Washington. Her mother and father acted locally in community theater and Dove began following in their footsteps at age eight, taking acting classes at Bainbridge Performing Arts, where, as part of her program, she appeared as Cosette in a Camp Teen staging of Les Misérables (her older sister Claire was the assistant director). She also played a dog in The Wizard of Oz and one fifth of a wrestler in Shakespeare’s As You Like It for Bainbridge. At age 12, Dove (still known as Chloe) landed the lead role of Mary in Bainbridge’s production of the musical The Secret Garden and received rave reviews.

At 13, Dove convinced her mother to move the family to Los Angeles to further her career. Arriving in L.A. at the age of 14, she changed her name and was enrolled at Burbank High School, where she joined the show choir team. However, she had a hard time making friends and was bullied by mean girls, one of whom locked her in a janitor's closet and another who threw razors at her and told her to kill herself. When Dove was 15, just before she landed her first television appearance as Holly Hermiker on two episodes of the hit Showtime series Shameless, her father committed suicide. Dove admits that since then, she's struggled with anxiety and depression.

Also in 2012, she appeared on an episode of The Mentalist as Charlotte Anne Jane, the daughter of Simon Baker’s character. Her third TV role was on the TV series Malibu Country.

The following year, Dove auditioned for and landed both lead roles as twins with polar opposite personalities on the Disney Channel series titled Liv and Maddie, rocketing her to teen stardom.

Later that year, Dove travelled to Utah to film her first Disney Channel movie, Cloud 9, co-starring Disney Channel regular Luke Benward. In 2015, Dove starred alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Hailee Steinfeld in her film debut, Barely Lethal and also played Mal, the daughter of Maleficent in the Disney Channel movie Descendants. She reprised the role in the sequels, Descendants 2 (2017) and Descendants 3 (2019), which was completed before her co-star Cameron Boyce's death due to an epileptic seizure.

Since Liv and Maddie came to a conclusion in 2017, Dove played a recurring role on the Disney Channel series The Lodge the same year, then in 2018 joined the cast of the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for six episodes in the role of Ruby. On Netflix, she played Bekah in the comedy movie Dumplin' (2018) alongside Jennifer Aniston.

Dove, who is still called Chloe by her friends, lives in an apartment in Los Angeles. She was at one time engaged to her Liv and Maddie co-star, Ryan McCarten, who played her boyfriend Diggie on the show. She is currently dating Thomas Doherty, who played Harry Hook in the second two Descendants movies.
