CLARE KILNER

Award-winning British writer/director Clare Kilner began her career in television. Her short films include Daphne & Apollo for Britain's Channel 4 and the television documentary The Secret, which earned a Royal TV Society award, the Best New Director award from the Melbourne Film Festival and the Best New Director award from the Nyon Film Festival.

She wrote and directed the independent film Janice Beard: 45 Words Per Minute (1999). Starring Eileen Walsh, Patsy Kensit and Rhys Ifans, it won Best Film honors at the Aspen Film Festival and Best Director and Best Film awards at the San Jose Film Festival, as well as a U.S. Comedy Arts Festival award in 2002.

The success propelled Kilner into the Hollywood big leagues, where her first American film (albeit filmed in Canada) was How to Deal (2003), starring Mandy Moore.
