In the official trailer for Manchester by the Sea, we see a man named Lee (Casey Affleck) and a boy on a boat, then are flashed into the future where Lee picks up a phone saying his brother Joe (Kyle Chandler) died. He also finds out he is now the legal guardian of his teenage nephew, Patrick (Lucas Hedges), and is advised to relocate back to his hometown for the sake of the boy. He's clearly not into the idea, joking about taking Patrick to the orphanage and asking another man to be his guardian. He gets a call from his ex-wife asking how he is. We see him dealing with his emotional ex-wife and nephew.
