In India, Smita (Mia Maelzer) braids her daughter Lalita's hair to prepare her for school, while in Italy, Giulia (Fotinì Peluso) joins her father at his workshop. In Canada, single mother Sarah (Kim Raver) drives her kids to school. When Lalita is beaten at school by her teacher because she's of the caste known as the Undesirables, Smita vows to leave town for a fresh start elsewhere. Giulia's father has a car accident, leaving her to deal with his debts, while Sarah collapses at her job. Something, somehow, will unite these three women.
