Corruption within the L.A.P.D. is suspected after detective Russell Poole (Johnny Depp) begins to question why the police did not investigate The Notorious B.I.G.'s murder. Poole says that "a murder like that only goes unsolved if the police don't want to solve it." He teams up with journalist "Jack" Jackson (Forest Whitaker) to uncover the connection between the murder of Tupac Shakur and the murder of The Notorious B.I.G. — a connection that could break the L.A.P.D. and ruin the city in the process.
