Emily Stanton (Octavia Spencer) is a scientist who has developed a formula designed to give ordinary people superpowers. When her friend Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) visits her at the lab, she's accidentally injected with the only formula Stanton has for super strength. With Emily's power to turn invisible and Lydia's superhuman strength, the two 40-something women form their new superhero team, Thunder Force, in order to stop a new kind of criminal that looks to take control of their city.
