The Trotsky is a comedic tale about Leon Bronstein (Baruchel), a young man who believes he is the reincarnation of Russian revolutionist, Leon Trotsky. After convincing his father’s workers to go on strike, Leon sets his sights on his school’s student union, determined to make it a real union. Baruchel calls the film a great twist on the usual teen comedy.
In the interview, Baruchel also talks about The Sorcerer’s Apprentice with Nicolas Cage and Monica Bellucci—a film that he thinks will be a huge blockbuster in summer 2010. Baruchel joked that he won’t soon forget production, since it involved crashing a Ferrari into a restaurant. Despite his love for acting, Baruchel says that one day he’s going to quit and just write and direct. “I’d be happy just to be directing low-budget horror films in Montreal,” he says.
