Demi Lovato says she relates to her character Smurfette in Smurfs: The Lost Village in many ways because they are both independent, curious and want to see the world. Joe Manganiello describes his character Hefty Smurf as brave, strong and chivalrous, traits that he also aspires to have. Joe says the the film revolves around Smurfette, who unlike her brothers, does not have a personality trait she is named after, that distinguishes her from the rest. The movie is about how she comes to find out how to define herself. Demi also says she hopes the movie inspires people to wonder what their purpose in life is. Joe hopes the film gets people to accept and celebrate their different personalities.
