Cate Blanchett explores the novel that her Oscar-nominated film Carol was adapted from, Patricia Highsmith's The Price of Salt. Cate praises director Todd Haynes for never compromising Highsmith's story and creating it in the "absolute right way." She says the age gap between her character and that of her co-star Rooney Mara is supremely important. She also notes that her character in the film is "almost unknowable and hidden to herself," which presented an interesting challenge for Blanchett as an actress.
