question why didn't paramount release hugo 2d as well? for not every ceimna in the united states doesn't have 3d. hugo would've benefitted more with a 2d copy instead of 3d. it's like paramount is cutting out another sizable share of audience. as for classics like goodfellas, taxi driver, and raging bull don't alter them at all. goodfellas i like but in 3d? i doubt it it would work.i read some of the earlier comments about hugo on weekend box office. i wonder why paramount limited the number of ceimnas 1,300 for example unless paramount is trying to have hugo put under oscar consideration. but i don't mind scorcese taking risks with new technology with 3d for example. now that's what makes a b

User review rating: 4 January 05, 2012

Beautiful to look at, good story but a bit long.

User review rating: 4 January 05, 2012

This is a movie best scene in 3D - maybe the first since Avatar to say this about. Mix in a very good script adn strong acting, and you have one of the best films of the year.

User review rating: 5 January 02, 2012

fantastic movie...not normally a fan of 3D, but this one was great, with great meshing between the 3d and story

User review rating: 5 January 02, 2012

Wonderful work of art -- Kingsley was wonderful, Scorcese used 3D as a current film technology to pay homage to the historical roots of cinema wrapped in a wonderful, life-affirming tale. 3D was superfluous to the tale, but not a hindrance to the misce en scene.

lovely movie!

User review rating: 4 December 28, 2011

Finally, a movie with a nice/touching story line. I don't think the 3D is necessary though. But the movis is great - no need for animated.

User review rating: 4 December 27, 2011

This was a fantastic movie. I went with my family and I highly recommend it.

User review rating: 4 December 27, 2011

An intrigueing movie with a fairly slow pace but with fantastic visuals and earnest, honest acting.

User review rating: 4 December 27, 2011

It was a very heart-felt movie.

Definitely a magical story. The filming was beautiful and the characters were all lovely. I loved the classic Parisian setting. Ben Kingsley is always at his best and Asa Butterfield was wonderful.

One of the best films of the year, Hugo is a family film from the master of dark adult drama, Martin Scorsese. The story of the titular orphan - who tries to solve the workings of an automation that is the last link he has to his father and winds up learning the secrets of film's first visionary, Georges Melies - is a tale about finding family and following one's dreams. Scorsese uses 3D not as a gimmick, but rather as one tool in his storyteller's kit. The result is a film that is as beautiful to look at - and feel a part of - as it is to feel. The superb cast is highlighted by its youngest members, Asa Butterfield as Hugo and Chloe Moretz as Isabelle, as well as number of brillian

Excellent movie! Makes you think twice about how much others' views of you can affect you postively or negatively!

User review rating: 5 December 23, 2011

Hugo was one of the most unique movie experiences in a long time.I really enjoyed the different media formats used throughout the movie, and the storyline remained interesting til the end. Martin Scorsese has created another great movie.

I loved this movie. The endearing storyline and characters just swept me along. Go with your kids - you'll all love it.

User review rating: 5 December 21, 2011

Beautiful movie. Scorscese at his best. 3D actually adds to the film instead of being a gimick

User review rating: 5 December 19, 2011

Best movie I've seen in decades. Can't wait to see how many Oscars it pulls in. True excellence in every aspect.

User review rating: 4 December 18, 2011

Great movie. My husband and I both loved the movie. I have recommended to others as a must see.

User review rating: 5 December 18, 2011

The Best film of the year so far. Not to be missed.

User review rating: 3 December 16, 2011

The 3D is beautiful, but the movie itself is a weird animal. I felt like the family friendly element with the kids was shoehorned on to the film history aspect that really appealed to Scorcese. Family stuff he could point to and get people to finance the movie - but it's G rated! Everyone will pay to see it!!

User review rating: 4 December 16, 2011

enjoyed it very much. Very animated characters yet 'real life'. Great movie for young and old. Visually pleasing...

User review rating: 5 December 15, 2011

We were pleasantly surprised that we enjoyed the movie so much, especially my husband. The 3D effects are great as well. Great family movie with no questionable language.

User review rating: 4 December 15, 2011

Loved this movie. It was beautifully shot and although not usually a fan of 3-D, I thought it added an amazing quality to the pic!! Would highly recommend!!

User review rating: 4 December 14, 2011

The movie was a real family type movie. We all enjoyed it

User review rating: 4 December 13, 2011

A great movie to bring any child with a sense of wonderment and curiousity to. If you love cinema, especially the history of cinema, this movie will be a delight. The 3D version is a must go, the opening scene is an excellent example of what can be done when 3D is done right. You might not believe it's Sasha Baron Cohen, nor Johnny Depp in the movie. The only drawback is the movie is a bit roundabout in its path, this can be a turn off to some.

User review rating: 1 December 13, 2011

This movie is not worth the hype. The sets were wonderful, story line was lacking and waaaaaay too long.

User review rating: 5 December 12, 2011

Loved the story and the 3D effects. Well worth seeing
